Welcome to our step-by-step guide on adding the Polygon network to your MetaMask wallet. This will allow you to access your Foundation Digital Member Pass (NFT) and other assets on the Polygon blockchain. You can choose from three different methods depending on your preference: automatic connection, manual setup on mobile, or manual setup on desktop.
Note: Do You Need to Import Your NFT into MetaMask?
No, you don’t necessarily need to import your NFT into your MetaMask wallet to use it! Importing an NFT is primarily for visualising it in your wallet. Your NFT is securely stored on the blockchain and linked to your wallet address. This means you can still access and use your NFT on any platform or dApp that recognises it, even if it doesn’t appear directly in your MetaMask wallet.
If you want to see your NFTs in MetaMask for reference, you can import them, but this step is entirely optional and doesn't affect your ownership or the NFT's functionality.
Option 1: Connect Automatically
The easiest way to add the Polygon network to MetaMask is to connect automatically through the official Polygon website.
On polygonscan, scroll to the bottom of the page, and click "Add Polygon Network".
A MetaMask notification will appear. Click “Approve” to proceed.
In the network dropdown list, you'll go straight to Polygon PoS Mainnet.
Once you complete this process, MetaMask will switch to the Polygon network automatically.
Option 2: Manually Add Polygon Network on Mobile
If you are using MetaMask on your mobile device, follow these steps to add the Polygon network manually:
Open MetaMask and click the network icon on the top middle. Select "Add Network." Choose "Polygon Mainnet" from popular chains, and confirm.
Your MetaMask wallet will now be connected to the Polygon network.
Option 3: Manually Add Polygon Network on Desktop (Browser Extension)
If you're using MetaMask as a browser extension, follow these steps to add the Polygon network manually:
Open MetaMask in your browser and click on the network dropdown at the top (it usually says "Ethereum Mainnet").
Click Add Network.
Click Add Network and select Polygon Mainnet. The following information should populate:
Network Name: Polygon Mainnet
New RPC URL: https://polygon-mainnet.infura.io
Chain ID: 137
Currency Symbol: POL
Block Explorer URL: https://polygonscan.com
Click “Save.”
After saving, MetaMask will automatically switch to the Polygon network.
What’s Next?
Now that you’ve added the Polygon network to MetaMask, you’re ready to import your Foundation Digital Member Pass (NFT) or any other Polygon-based assets. Follow the instructions in the welcome email to complete the import process.
